Email-based UPnP Media Server

This Audio/Video (AV) Media Server is an Open Source UPnP compatible media server, which takes media contenet directly from your mail system, instead of your local disk. This enables you to store all your Music, Pictures and Videos by simply e-mailing them to yourself, and then playing them on your TV or stereo using any standard UPnP client device. The mail AV media server supports all standard POP3 and IMAP mail servers (yes, Gmail too).

Email-based UPnP Server

What possessed us to do this?

Basically, I was looking for a quick and easy way to store my MP3’s and digital photos, and then view them on my TV. I was not always at home, and had no access to my PC. I ended up sending them to my email, and then when I got home, I would retrieve my mail, store it on my PC in various directories. This got tiresome, so I decided to skip a step, and directly connect my mail to my entertainment center at home. Thus, this media server was developed. I keep a few mail accounts specifically for media files like MP3 and pictures. I use Rogers' 2Gb POP3 account, and also Gmail account for some of my music.
